Turn What's in Your Fridge into 5 Dinners
Who it's for: Anyone tired of asking "what's for dinner?"
The problem
You open the fridge, see random stuff, and end up ordering takeout. You want real dinner ideas using what you already have, without a trip to the store.
Copy-paste prompt
Works on free ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. Replace everything in [brackets].
You are a friendly home-cooking helper. Here is what I have: Proteins: [e.g. chicken thighs, eggs, canned beans] Veggies: [e.g. half an onion, 2 carrots, spinach] Pantry: [e.g. rice, pasta, tortillas, soy sauce, canned tomatoes] Rules: - Give me 5 dinner ideas I can make in 30 minutes or less. - Use mostly what I listed. If something extra is needed, list it separately as "optional extras" (max 2 per meal). - I have a pan, a pot and an oven. No fancy gear. - For each meal give: a name, the ingredients I will use, and 4 to 6 short steps. - End with a tiny shopping list of the optional extras, with duplicates combined.
What good output looks like
Five distinct meals (not five versions of "stir fry"), each with short numbered steps and a clear ingredient list drawn from YOUR list. A combined "optional extras" list at the end. If it invents ingredients you never mentioned and does not label them, that is a miss.
Common mistake
Typing "what can I cook?" with no ingredients. The AI then guesses and gives generic recipes. The ingredient list is what makes this work. Also: say your time limit and your gear, or you will get slow-roast recipes.
Next step
Reply "make it for 2 people and halve the quantities" or "swap meal 3 for something vegetarian." One follow-up usually fixes it.
